Are you starting to feel like you just need a bit of a getaway? Some time away from that home office? After having spent most of this year cooped up inside our homes, wouldn’t it be great to escape for a while, breathe in that countryside air and connect with nature? Well we can provide you with just that escape at South Winchester Lodges; perfect for that mid-week staycation!
Not only have we been awarded the “We’re good to go Industry Standard”, our lodges are private, equipped and surrounded by woodlands in the setting of the stunning Winchester countryside for you to enjoy. Our 5* star lodges benefit from the ultimate luxury - allowing you to escape the mid-week madness, and meal-time madness with our to-the-door meals. That way you can fully relax in the afternoon, or evening after enjoying what Winchester has to offer.
It’s about time you got up off your office chair and put down that spatula and saucepan, and enjoyed the beautiful walks Winchester has to offer, all within a stone’s throw from our lodges.
Here's a few of our ideas...
1. The New Forest and a Posh Picnic
The New Forest offers some beautiful, picturesque walks! Check out the Tall Trees Trail, Clarendon or, if you’re a book lover, enjoy the beauties of the Jane Austen Trail. Worried about the Autumn rain spoiling your walk? Beaulieu, centred in the heart of the New Forest, offers some great guaranteed rain and mud-free fun for you and the whole family, unless you’re a fan of sticking on your wellie boots of course!
Here at South Winchester Lodges, we want to help you enjoy your trip to the New Forest hassle-free with our readily prepared picnics. It’s time to say goodbye to those boring sandwiches, and hello to the The Little Kitchen Company’s posh picnics, with options such as Harissa spiced hummus and crudités and treats like home-made chocolate brownie with clotted cream. All freshly prepared and delivered to your door for you to take and enjoy on your New Forest adventure! You can even include a small bottle of prosecco if you really want to treat yourself!
2. St Catherine’s Hill and a spot of Afternoon Tea
Just a 10-minute drive away from our lodges – or a 30-minute cycle through the woodlands, St Catherine’s Hill offers some spectacular views over Winchester. Bestowed in local flora, St Catherine’s Hill is great for a quick lunchtime or afternoon stroll, a place to relax and soak up some local views. If you fancy blowing off a bit of steam, why not have some fun running (or even rolling) down the sloping hill!
After your stroll, our team at The Little Kitchen Company can provide you with the perfect afternoon tea. Think about it, you get back from your walk to freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, gorgeous homemade cakes and fabulous finger sandwiches; the perfect British treat following an afternoon gazing over the stunning British countryside!
3. The Itchen Way and Dinner to your Door
The 30-mile walk along the River Itchen will have you itching for some delicious dinner by the time you get back! Of course, we definitely don’t advise you to give the whole 30 miles a go, unless you fancy yourself as a marathon walker, but the Itchen Way is a great riverside walk through the historic centre of Winchester and passes by lovely stretches of chalk river. The Itchen Way can be split into different walks, or why not be spontaneous and create your own walking itinerary?
By the time you get back, you’ll get to enjoy some fantastic Dinner to your Door options from the comfort of your lodge, such as chicken tikka masala with naan or vegetable tagine with herb couscous; there are options for everyone. Our mouths are watering already!
So, whatever walks and whatever treats you decide to enjoy at South Winchester Lodges, due to high demand, you need to make sure you get booked up with us as soon as possible to enjoy missing out on one of our un-missable mid-week breaks!
